It's not easy being green. Here's how to help your plants survive the move.
- Be selective when choosing which houseplants to take with you. Some are hardier than others and will withstand the move. Some plants may suffer from shock when moved and, if they make it, will take some time to recover. Consider giving the more fragile or the too-large-to-move plants to friends, local hospitals, or libraries.
- Expose your plants to only moderate temperatures -- never below 35 degrees or above 95 degrees F.
- Consider taking along only cuttings of your favorite houseplants -- if they can be propagated that way -- for convenience and to save space. Place in a plastic bag with moistened peat moss or in a wet paper towel.
- If you're using a moving company, ask if it will move plants. Most will if the plants are moved within 150 miles and/or delivery is completed within 24 hours.
