Introduction
Drywall edges are bridged with paper tape set in a bed of joint compound. Sometimes the tape will loosen, particularly in humid areas like bathrooms. Use the technique described here to correct the problem. To prevent a recurrence, improve ventilation in the room. |

1. Trim edges
Use a sharp knife to make a clean break at the edges, then carefully pull away the loose tape. |
2. Apply joint compound
Apply joint compound, position new tape, then smooth bubbles with light, vertical strokes of the knife. |
3. Finish
Apply compound over tape right away. Let dry, then coat again, feather out the edges, and sand. |
